Background
Planning and Consultation background
The London Borough of Lewisham is currently preparing its Local Development Framework, the new set of development plan policies against which planning applications will be judged against.
While Surrey Wharves masterplan area is currently allocated for industrial employment uses, the LDF Core Strategy identifies the area as a suitable and sustainable location for mixed-use redevelopment including residential and smaller-scale commercial uses. This will promote regeneration and growth within North Deptford.
Planning applications have already been submitted to the London Borough of Lewisham on 3 of the sites within Surrey Wharves, namely Cannon Wharf, Marine Wharf (East) and 19 Yeoman Street. None of these applications have been determined by the local authority. Berkeley Homes, during pre-application discussions with Lewisham agreed to prepare a masterplan for the whole of The Surrey Wharves.
The masterplan demonstrates how the sites could de developed in a coordinated manner to ensure that the key planning and urban design principles are delivered. This will avoid piecemeal development of the area. Berkeley Homes can only deliver the principles of the masterplan on its site at Marine Wharf (West).
